Are you doing it WRONG?

The world of mobile apps is growing with each passing day. Every day hundreds of apps are launched on the Apple and Google stores. But, have you ever imagined why only a very small percentage of apps are able to do well in the market? Failure is certainly the first thing that you must keep in mind when it comes to technology business and especially mobile application development. As per statistics, 35% of mobile app engagements last less than a minute which clearly indicate that users do not take much time in deciding the fate of any app and that is pretty understandable from the users view point as they have so many apps to choose from. There are several reasons why mobile apps are failing, and in this article we will be highlighting the top 4.

Bad Market Research

As we all know, that some ideas which may sound great theoretically, may actually be far from it in reality and that’s exactly the case with mobile apps. Before, undertaking any project, there should be a fair amount of research involved in it. Especially, when it comes to mobile apps, the market research gets more profound as you may find similar apps that may be offering the same features and functionalities as your app. Here the competition even gets tougher and you will need to come up with a much improved and refined app, in order to compete with others.  You must analyze if there is a market potential for the specific app idea that you are planning to develop. Above all, the most important question that you must answer is that why people would want to use your app?

Poor market research will eventually lead you to failure. It’s not always necessary that you come up with a unique idea every time you plan to build an app, but the quality and functions of the app will matter and will eventually incite users to using it.

Choosing the right Platform

Presently, we have only two top platforms in the market which are iOS and Android. So, in my opinion, you should choose from either one, since these will allow you to reach out to the maximum audience. We often hear people asking questions like on which platform should I build my app first? Or should I go for iOS or Android first? Well, again that question will certainly be answered after you complete your market research. First you need to check if a similar app is already there on any of the platforms. If not, then you already have the answer and you can start with either one. It is always advisable to go with one platform first, as this will help you understand the market feedback and will not be a burden on your pocket. Once your app is fully developed on one platform, it can easily be replicated on the other. Developing on multiple platforms simultaneously is never a great idea, but whichever platform you choose, just make sure you focus on quality and your app is bug free before you move on to the other platforms.

Poor UI and UX

Always remember that with so much of competition out there, it is next to impossible for your app to do well, if the design of your app is outdated or is not up to the mark. Design is an integral part of any app and even good apps which offer great features fail just because of the poor interface and user experience. Your app should have visually appealing design which could attract users. Always, stay updated with the latest market trends. User experience is another important aspect of your app. The app should offer great user experience, allowing users to perform the basic functions of the app and help them understand the core functionalities with ease. The application flow should be flawless and there should be no issues like, sluggishness, long loading time, complex sign up forms etc.

Lack of Proper Monetization Strategies

Another important reason why apps don’t do well is because they lack proper monetization strategies. You need a well-planned monetization strategy before your app goes live on the store. That’s the prerequisite of going further down the happy list. Work out a proper marketing strategy for your app, because even if your app is unable to do well initially, you will still have time to survive and recover. You should offer the best feature of your app for free, and learn how and where to generate revenue from. Integrate ads that will be a good source of generating revenue. You can also add in-app purchases, which will help you in generating revenue and increase user engagement.
